Life-saving equipment comes to Rugby's independent shopping quarter

THE INDEPENDENT shopping quarter in Rugby Town Centre now has its own life-saving equipment.

A defibrillator and trauma pack costing just under £1,000 has been bought by Regent Street’s Experience Hair Design, and will be based at the salon for anyone trained to use it in an emergency.

A defibrillator is a device that gives an electric shock to the heart to someone who is in cardiac arrest – an essential life-saving step.

Salon owner Jane Mozley said: “We knew there were other defibrillators in town, the nearest to us being the Town Hall, but we thought it would be good to have this piece of equipment along with a trauma pack in Regent Street to cover this area of the town.

“Ultimately we hope to speed up response times and potentially save a life – obviously we hope it never has to be used but if it does, it is here.”

Rugby First managing director Aftab Gaffar said it was a fantastic gesture.

He said: “Although there are other defibrillators in the town centre, having quick access to one can make all the difference when administering first aid and can be a matter of life and death.

“Having one in Regent Street will certainly help increase response times and all Rugby Town Rangers are trained in first aid and the use of defibrillators so it will be great to have at our disposal.”

Rugby First Responders will provide free training on the equipment in the coming weeks.
