Little Isla pulls on her running shoes every day to help the NHS

LITTLE Isla Keay is determined to play her part in helping the NHS – and you can help her do it.

The six-year-old Rugby schoolgirl is running a kilometre a day during lockdown to raise money for Warwick-based NHS Charities Together, which supports and champions the work of NHS charities.

The Bawnmore Infant School pupil was initially aiming to raise £100 but has already raised more than £1,300.

Her dad Ally explained: “Isla is really missing her friends at the moment. She does the runs outside with me and sometimes we try to run past her friends houses who are local to give them a wave on the way past.

“The challenge came about after me and Isla got a bit bored of our little walk once a day, so we decided to run one time. Isla really enjoyed it and as her mum (Kellie an operations manager at Forrest Medical Centre in Coventry) and a lot of our family (Auntie Coco and her grandma) and family friends work for the NHS, she wanted to do a challenge involving running to raise some money.

“Kellie and myself are so proud of her for wanting to do this, keep fit and healthy during lockdown and raise money and awareness at the same time.

“Kellie runs herself now and then but unfortunately she is at work most the time when we go for the run so doesn’t get chance to run with us and obviously because Isla is raising money for the NHS that puts a massive smile on Kellie’s face and makes it that little bit easier going to work everyday.

“I’m a personal trainer so its enjoyable for me to run with my daughter. She is amazing in my eyes.”

Isla will complete her challenge on May 7.
