Local band bringing festive funk to Christmas lights switch-on this weekend

A POPULAR local band will headline Rugby’s Christmas lights switch-on this weekend.

White Men Can’t Funk will top the bill of a programme of local music and dance entertainment planned for the festive family event, which takes place on Sunday (November 20) from 12 noon until 6pm.

Organised by Rugby First, the lights will be switched-on by the Mayor, Father Christmas and a representative from Rugby’s Ukrainian Community.

There will also be a funfair, children’s entertainment, Santa’s Grotto, street food, stalls, and a firework display that will bring the event to a close.

Activities will take place on North Street, Church Street, Market Place, Regent Street, Henry Street, Albert Street, Bank Street and other areas of the town centre.

The funfair will also be in North Street car park the day before on Saturday (November 19) from 12 noon to 8pm.

And there will be a chance to make a lantern in preparation for a lantern procession taking place in St Andrew’s Church gardens on Saturday December 3.

Jo Kemp, Rugby First Operations Director, said: “We are really excited about this year’s switch-on. The annual event is always very well-attended and generates significant footfall and trade for town centre businesses. I think the fantastic music programme along with the other attractions, including Santa’s Grotto, will provide some great family entertainment and draw good crowds which can only be good news for the town centre economy.”
