RUGBY will no longer go to the polls in May after the government postponed local elections until next year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Elections for Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner were due to take place on Thursday May 7. They will now take place in May 2021.
Downing Street made the decision because the polls would take place during the peak of the spread of the virus.
It comes after the Electoral Commission said on Thursday the elections should be delayed until the autumn to mitigate the impact of the virus.
The last time elections were delayed was in 2001, during the foot and mouth outbreak.
