Lonely and disadvantaged invited to free Christmas dinner

NO-ONE should be lonely on Christmas Day – that is the message from a community centre which is once again hosting a free festive feast for disadvantaged or socially isolated residents on the big day.

Around 30 volunteers at the Benn Partnership Centre will give up their Christmas Day to host a community event for people with mobility issues, people who have trouble cooking for themselves, or anyone who might be alone for Christmas dinner and would like to eat with others.

Sonia Johns, Trustee Chairperson of the centre, thanked Asda for funding this year’s dinner.

She said: “Our Christmas dinner is a huge undertaking involving a large team of volunteers. We also rely on the generosity of local businesses, without whom this Christmas dinner would not be able to go ahead.”

Asda Community Life Champion Allie Scrace said: “We hope the day brings lots of festive cheer and brings our local community together this Christmas. The Benn Partnership do such wonderful things every day and Asda are proud to be involved.”

The event will run from 10.30am to 4pm on Christmas Day (Wednesday December 25), and will consist of a three-course meal with turkey or vegetarian options, games, carols, a brass band, dancing and other entertainment.

Places are limited. To book a place on a first-come first-served basis, call the centre on (01788) 553033 between 9am-5pm before Sunday December 15.
