PARENTS have seen inside Rugby’s newest school for the first time as it prepares to open in just under a year.

St Gabriel’s C of E Academy, the new primary school in Houlton, is holding a series of open days during October and November as it prepares to open its doors to local children in September 2018.

The first group of parents – along with Observer photographer Jon Mullis – have already seen inside the newly-completed buildings at the first event on the former mast site, with more planned in the coming weeks.

Families will be able to quiz head teacher Andrew Taylor, who will also be available for drop-in meetings and further open consultation events in the coming months.

Andrew said: “We’re very pleased to be opening our doors and showcasing the school’s fantastic facilities.

“These open days are a great opportunity for families to meet us, gain a sense of the environment we will provide for our pupils and hear about our passion for providing an outstanding education for every child.”

Richard Coppell, Development Director for Houlton developers Urban&Civic, comments: “We have created Houlton as a place with excellent connections, outdoor spaces, stand-out facilities and a sense of community – and high quality education is central to this.

“The opening of St. Gabriel’s marks a pivotal point in our project. These open days will be a great opportunity to come along and learn more about the education and experiences the school will offer residents right on their doorstep.

“We’re proud to see another element of the new neighbourhood complete.”

Canon Linda Wainscot, Director of Education for the Diocese of Coventry, added: “This is a wonderful opportunity and privilege to add to our family of 74 Church of England schools across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. Church of England schools welcome children of all faiths and no faith, and focus on working with families to ensure that everyone fulfils their human potential.

“We look forward to playing a significant role in the development of community at Houlton.”

The school will teach children aged 4-11 from the Houlton community, neighbouring villages and the wider Rugby area. It will offer 30 places for reception children in September 2018, with additional places for older children based on demand.

Open days take place on Saturday (October 14) at 10am-12noon, and Thursday November 16 at 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Visit www.stgabrielshoulton.org.uk for more information.
