BIG-HEARTED primary school children have been spreading Christmas cheer among residents of a care home.

A group of six and seven-year-olds from from Dunchurch CofE Infant School visited Anya Court Care Home with a song in their hearts.

They handed out carefully written Christmas cards to the grateful residents, before standing in front of the Christmas tree to sing carols including Little Donkey, Away in a Manger, Silent Night and Hey Santa.

They also signed in Makaton when performing It Was On a Starry Night, explaining that they had learnt the signs as a way of ensuring all residents were able to feel involved in their performance, as they didn’t want anyone to feel isolated.

Assistant headteacher Hannah Owen said: “We are so proud of the children’s hard work in rehearsing and delivering this Christmas carol concert. They have all been so excited to meet the residents and were determined to put a smile on their faces this Christmas – and they certainly achieved their mission.

“One of our school values is kindness, and so the children have been thinking of ways to ‘throw kindness around like confetti’. This performance was one of the many ways they have been doing that, and the children are determined to continue doing more things to spread kindness and joy in Rugby throughout 2023.”
