LOOK: Flipping good fun as Pancake Day Races return to Rugby

A FLIPPING good time was had by all at Rugby’s first Pancake Day Races since the pandemic.

Despite the skies providing a different kind of drizzle than traditional pancake toppings, plenty of sweet-toothed Rugbeians came along to join in the celebrations.

The event – organised by Rugby Rokeby Lions with support from Rugby First – included pancake races, tossing and throwing, face painting, circus skills including egg juggling, mini rides and a pancake quiz trail.

All proceeds went to the Brain Tumour Research charity.

Ralph Watson, President of Rugby Rokeby Lions, said: ‘We were truly delighted to see so many people come and have fun in the various events despite the rain – from little tots in their wellies to adults in fancy dress.

“Our Lions Brain Tumour Research team were also kept busy with people wanting to know more so, for us as Lions, the day was a flipping winner.

“A huge thank you on behalf of the Rugby Rokeby Lions to the whole Rugby First team, the Mayor of Rugby and, of course, to the businesses and people of Rugby for your support.”

Rugby First Business Manager Linda Lowne said: “I was delighted with how well the event went and that people really embraced the spirit of the day, even in the face of persistent rain and cold temperatures. There were some fantastic races with all ages represented and it was great to see a number of town centre businesses taking part.

“As well as visitors to the event having a lot of fun, the day also helped to raise funds and awareness around the Brain Tumour Research Appeal.

“I would like to say a special thank you to Rugby Rokeby Lions, the Mayor and all those businesses that took part and provided prizes for the various activities on the day.
