LOOK: Rain fails to stop play at Rugby Spring Fair

THE RAIN didn’t stop thousands from filling Whitehall Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Monday, as the annual Rugby Rotary Spring Fair proved as popular as ever.

Acrobats on horseback from the Galloping Acrobats performed tricks during the fair, which has been one of the town’s biggest annual events for 38 years, regularly attracting up to 10,000 visitors.

Young musicians from Rugby Area Talent Trust (RATT) – including Macey Quinn, Tom Cowan, Lois Arrow and Ellen Goodwin, Flo Bannigan, Lewis Graham, Emily Goodwin, Dirty Jazz Jukebox, Lawrence Sheriff Jazz Band and Anya Lang – provided five hours of live music from a special stage in the north-east corner of the park.

Rugby Lionesses, Jaide’s Stage Studios, G Force Martial Arts and birds of prey also performed in the public arena.

Impact Dancers offered free workshops and performed a display, and a steam traction engine built by local resident Lionel Hudspith ferried delighted children around the park.

Kids kept themselves entertained with a colouring competition, children’s archery, face painting, crazy golf and a small pets area.

Observer photographer Jon Mullis popped along to take in the sights.
