A LORRY was left hanging off a motorway bridge near Rugby after it crashed through a barrier this morning (Monday April 24).

Police were called at around 4.40am to a report of a collision involving a lorry on the M1 southbound carriageway at junction 19, the Catthorpe Interchange.

The lorry was left hanging over the A14 at Catthorpe Interchange. Picture by Northants Roads Policing Team.

The lorry reportedly collided with the barrier leaving part of the vehicle and the barrier hanging over the A14.

The driver safely left his vehicle and was not injured.

At around 7.30am, Leicestershire Police said the M1 southbound at junction 19 and the A14 in both directions would remain closed for ‘several hours’ while repairs were made and debris cleared.

Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area where possible while arrangements were made to remove the vehicle and ensure both roads were safe to be reopened.
