Lutterworth charities given late Christmas present

Rugby Editorial 14th Apr, 2019   0

A LATE Christmas present has been given to charities in and around Lutterworth thanks to Santas dashing through the snow – who have raised over £109,000 for good causes over the last ten years.

The Joint Rotary Clubs of Lutterworth presented cheques to charities that benefited from the pre-Christmas Santa Fun Run.

The event’s 550 entrants raised £5,800 – which was shared between the Air Ambulance, Loros Hospice, Cancer Research, Bamboozle Theatre Company, Lutterworth Share & Care Group, Lutterworth and District Age Concern, Lutterworth and Villages Foodbank, and charities supported by the Rotary Club of Lutterworth and the Rotary Club of Lutterworth Wycliffe.

Donations totalling £550 were also given to local community groups which supported the event.

On behalf of the organising committee, Eddie Hemsley thanked everyone who made the event possible through giving their time, money or materials.

He said: “Without the support of local businesses and other organisations, the event would be impossible to stage.

“The Fun Run yet again proved to be a great success and some very worthwhile causes had achieved significant benefit.”

The committee confirmed the 2019 Santa Fun Run would take place on Sunday December 1, two days after the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
