M1 near Lutterworth to remain closed until late afternoon after lorry fire

THE M1 near Lutterworth is expected to remain closed until the afternoon rush hour is well underway today (Friday March 22) after a lorry fire broke out early this morning.

All lanes on the northbound carriageway are closed between junction 20 for Lutterworth and junction 21 for Leicester after three lorries collided at around 1.30am.

The blaze, described by a Highways England spokesperson as ‘intense’, has destroyed one lorry and severely damaged another, and caused damage to the road surface.

The 10-mile section of motorway is expected to re-open between 5.30 and 5.45 this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said one person was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but the extent of their injuries is not yet clear.
