THE M6 was closed in both directions this morning following a crash between a car and a lorry.

Crews from both East Midlands Ambulance Service and the West Midlands Ambulance services joined forces to attend the scene of a crash this morning (Wednesday January 20).

The crash occurred on the southbound carriageway of junction 1 near Rugby at around 9.15am.

Paramedics arrived as well as teams from Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

A WMAS spokesperson said: “Two vehicles were involved in the collision. A lorry driver, a man in his twenties, had a serious leg injury. He was immobilised and given pain relief and was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“A man who was driving the other vehicle involved was checked over and discharged at the scene.”

The road has since re-opened in both directions, but traffic is slow.
