A WOMAN was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a police car in Rugby.

The patrol car was responding to an emergency call on the A45 Stretton on Dunsmore around 12.10pm on Monday (March 7) when the woman was hit at the junction of Dunchurch Road and Overslade Lane.

Emergency services were called and the woman – believed to be in her 20s – was anaesthetised before being taken to University Hospital in Coventry.

The police officer who was driving was not injured.

The crash scene was cordoned off for more than four hours following the incident, which has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
