Main road through Dunchurch to close over next two weekends

Rugby Editorial 14th Jan, 2022   0

A MAIN road through Dunchurch will be closed for the next two weekends as roadworks at the crossroads at the centre of the village continue.

The A426 Southam Road and Rugby Road near the crossroads will be closed from 7:30am on Saturday (January 15) to 6am on Monday (January 17) – and again at the same times the following weekend (Saturday January 22 to Monday January 24).

The closures will allow carriageway resurfacing works as part of the ongoing highway improvement works on the B4429/A426 Dunchurch Crossroads junction.

Businesses in Dunchurch are open as usual and access is being maintained at all times.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) said traffic management at the junction was being regularly monitored by its contractor, Breheny Civil Engineering, and works supervisor – and that there would be clearly designated and signed pedestrian routes and access to parking.

WCC transport and planning spokesman Coun Wallace Redford said: “We have listened to the concerns of local businesses that residents need to be able to gain access to their premises.

“The traffic management is designed to allow work to be carried out and ensure the safety of pedestrians.”

The highway improvement works are being carried out to satisfy planning conditions imposed on the 860-home David Wilson Homes development being built off Ashlawn Road.
