DETECTIVES have arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated burglary after a ‘cowardly’ attack was launched on a resident who investigated a suspicious incident in Bilton.
On Thursday (June 29) at around 1.13am, police received a report of a man being assaulted by three men when he went to investigate suspicious behaviour outside a property in Lime Tree Avenue.
Yesterday (Monday July 3), detectives from Rugby’s Proactive CID arrested a 43-year-old man in Railway Terrace.
He was brought into custody on suspicion of aggravated burglary and fraud – and has since been further arrested on suspicion of being involved in a separate burglary in Northamptonshire.
This afternoon (Tuesday July 4), he was released on police bail while enquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “This was a brazen and cowardly attack. We’re not going to tolerate this in our town.
“Thankfully, the victim didn’t require hospital treatment, and this sort of incident remains incredibly rare in Rugby.
“The investigation continues, and I would like to once again ask that anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious on Lime Tree Avenue at around 1.13am on June 29 calls or visits us.
“Do you live in the area and have CCTV? If so, please check it and contact us if have captured anything suspicious.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or visit www.warwickshire.police.uk/ro/report, citing incident 19 of June 29.
