Masterchef star to headline Rugby Food Festival

A MASTER chef will demonstrate his skills at the annual Rugby Food and Drink Festival next weekend.

Steve Kielty, who finished as runner-up in the BBC’s Masterchef programme this year, will serve up seasonal produce and modern British dishes in the pop-up demonstration kitchen alongside other chefs.

Steve has been cooking since he was 15 and since his success in Masterchef spends his time combining his full-time job in music with his culinary passion.

During the festival he will showcase dishes he loves to eat at home.

Steve said: “There is definitely a similarity between what I do for a living and my cooking.

As a sound engineer I am always dealing with both the scientific and creative sides of music and music production. I think this is also reflected in the food I like to cook.

“I love thinking up new dishes or thinking of ways to play with flavour combinations and textures of classics.

“I enjoy the science and precision involved in the more modernist style of cooking, but still love the simplicity of good ingredients and classic cookery.”

Rugby First managing director Aftab Gaffar said: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to the festival. Each year the festival continues to grow and develop and Steve, along with the other chefs, are a key part of this.”

The festival will also include hot and cold food stalls, a pop-up real ale bar, live music, family entertainment and children’s activities.

Aftab added: “The festival is always popular with stall-holders and visitors and it is great to see that the number of stalls have increased and that these have all sold out again.”

The event takes place on Saturday September 30 from 10.30am-5pm in St Andrew’s Church and Gardens, Church Street.
