HE’S a legend, an inspiration and it was amazing to meet him.
That’s how one young basketball player at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre described England star Dru Spinks after his visit last Wednesday.
He was in town in his role as a sporting champion of Sport England’s Sportivate project, the £56 million National Lottery funded Olympic and Paralympic legacy initiative that gives 14 to 25-year-olds, who are not particularly sporty subsidised coaching in a new sport.
In Rugby basketball sessions are normally run for just £2 every Wednesday, but they were free on the day of Dru’s visit and will be again when he returns tomorrow (Wednesday).
