A ‘NASTY, unprovoked’ assault left a cyclist needing hospital treatment after four men pulled up in a car and attacked him.

At around 8.15pm on Monday April 18, the victim, a 29 year-old man, was cycling in Buchanan Road near the junction with Wentworth Road when a dark-coloured saloon pulled up alongside him.

Four men got out of the vehicle and assaulted him, and as he fell to the ground he was kicked in the face and head.

It is believed the offenders were carrying objects described as a crowbar and a bladed weapon.

A second vehicle, believed to be a white van, then pulled up and the victim was driven to hospital. The van drove off in an unknown direction. It is currently unknown if the occupants of the car and the van were known to each other.

The victim sustained injuries to his wrist, head and face which required hospital treatment.

Investigating officer Andy Holloway said: “This was a nasty unprovoked assault on the cyclist and we are keen to identify those involved.

“If anyone witnessed the offence or has any information that may assist with the investigation, please call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident 401 of April 18.”
