Mini rugby taster session, job fair, scenic walks - events coming soon to Rugby

A FREE chance for kids to tackle rugby – with the World Cup around the corner – takes place this weekend.

A taster training session will be held during Rugby Lions Minis and Juniors’ new season registration day.

This year, Rugby Lions will be running teams for boys and girls in school years 1-6, boys in school years 7-9, and girls in school years 7-13.

As well as the taster session, coaches and managers will be on hand to answer questions.

Membership Secretary Jamie Lambert said: “We look forward to welcoming new boys and girls across all our age groups.

“Historically, every Rugby World Cup year always sees a spike in young players taking up the game and with the tournament kicking off in September, we expect many youngsters wanting to emulate their professional idols.”

“Rugby Lions Minis and Juniors focus all we do around the RFU’s core values – teamwork, respect, discipline, enjoyment and sportsmanship.

“We are firm believers of fulfilling the half-game rule – meaning all players, regardless of ability, will play a minimum of half a game, every game.”

The registration day takes place on Sunday (September 8) at the club’s ground in Webb Ellis Road. Registration starts at 9.30am with the taster session taking place from 10am-12noon.

A JOBS and Support Fair will take place next week.

Attendees can speak to employers with current vacancies, get help with self-employment, talk to training providers, find out about volunteering opportunities, and get help with CVs.

Organisations will also be on hand to offer advice on finances and debt, housing, mental health, addiction support and more.

The drop-in event takes place at the Benn Hall on Wednesday (September 11) from 10am to 12.30pm.

RUGBY Ramblers will take a four-mile walk around Cathiron on Sunday (September 8). Meet in Barby Road opposite the Temple Speech Room just before 10am. Call Jean and Martin on 01788 541712 for more information.

A six-mile walk around Boddington takes place on Tuesday (September 10). Meet near the recycling area in Sainsbury’s car park at 9.15am. Call Sandra on 01788 890475 for more information.

Walks around Warwick, Leek Wootton, Cleeve Hill, Welton, Corley Moor, Bulkington and Flore are planned later this month. Visit www.rugbyramblers.org.uk for more information.
