More free parking coming to Lutterworth amid car park upgrades

Rugby Editorial 16th Jun, 2019   0

FREE parking in Lutterworth is to be expanded as part of improvements to the district’s car parks costing £250,000.

More ‘pop and shop’ parking bays – which allow shoppers to park free of charge for 30 minutes – will be created in Station Road, George Street and Chapel Street car parks.

Resurfacing work and other improvements will also be made to George Street and Chapel Street, as well as Church Close and other car parks in Market Harborough and Little Bowden.

Sites were prioritised based on current condition, wear and tear, age and compliance with safety standards following surveys of all council-owned car parks across the district.

The programme of improvements, which will take place over the next three years, was announced by Harborough District Council.

Council leader Coun Phil King said: “Having excellent car parking facilities is vital in terms of supporting businesses and the local economy, as well as to maintain safety and ensure car parks continue to meet the needs of shoppers, visitors and residents.”
