YOUNG people in Rugby are being invited to take their policy ideas to the corridors of power by the town’s MP.
Rugby MP John Slinger is inviting people aged 14-21 to take part in ‘Pitch Your Policy’, an event designed to give them a platform to share ideas for new policies or improvements to existing ones.
Participants will have one minute to pitch their policy idea to Mr Slinger and a special guest, followed by a two-minute question-and-answer session where the audience can ask questions about the proposal.
Once all pitches have been delivered, the audience will vote to choose their favourite idea.
The winning policy will be championed by Mr Slinger in Parliament.
Mr Slinger said: “One of my key priorities as an MP is to give young people a voice. Too often, their ideas and concerns about their communities and the country go unheard.
“In the past, I co-founded and ran policy pitching events under the banner of Pragmatic Radicalism to encourage those who might not usually feel confident enough to get involved in politics. These events successfully brought fresh ideas to Labour politicians from people of all backgrounds.
“I’m excited to bring this model to young people in Rugby. Their creativity and passion should help shape the future of this country – and I hope this event will be a fun and inspiring way to make that happen.”
Young people interested in taking part should submit their policy ideas to [email protected] by March 20. The event will take place on March 27.
