MP hopeful talks green issues with head of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust

GREEN issues were at the top of the tree when a candidate to be Rugby’s next MP met the head of a Warwickshire conservation organisation.

John Slinger visited Brandon Marsh to meet Warwickshire Wildlife Trust CEO Ed Green, to see the Trust’s work and talk about the environment and nature.

They discussed the national Wildlife Trusts’ Priorities for Action document, which calls for political parties to commit to reversing the decline of nature in Britain.

Mr Slinger, Labour’s candidate for Rugby at the next general election, said: “As a member of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, it was good to hear about the great work they are doing to protect and promote the natural world locally.

“We walked around the beautiful Brandon Marsh nature reserve and I saw first-hand the great work the Trust is doing to create a habitat for wildlife of all forms that can be enjoyed by all.

“I’m committed to working with everyone involved to ensure our natural environment is accessible to as many people as possible in our community, so that they can enjoy the health benefits and learn about our responsibility to protect nature and the environment wherever we can.

“I will continue the conversation with the Trust about reviewing the Environment Improvement Plan, a Flood Resilience Taskforce, supporting nature-rich habitats, promoting sustainable regenerative farming, meeting our climate goals, strengthening ecosystems – and making sure water bosses face criminal sanctions and don’t receive bonuses until they’ve cleaned up their filth.”

Mr Green said: “I would like to thank John for taking the time to visit and listen to what the Wildlife Trust is asking from all political parties.

“The next general election will be crucial for nature and we would be pleased to meet any candidate.”
