Natasha blazing a trail in a male-dominated industry

Rugby Editorial 8th Mar, 2024   0

AN ACCOMPLISHED Rugby woman has spoken about her career progression and success in a male-dominated industry to mark International Women’s Day (Friday March 8).

Natasha McIntyre has risen through the ranks at housebuilder Mulberry Homes.

Natasha, 29, works at the company’s head office in Rugby, having started as a Senior Administrator in 2019 before she joined the Technical department in early 2021, where she is now Technical Coordinator.

She is responsible for coordinating architectural, engineering and planning elements of each project, and liaising with other departments, external consultants, local authorities, housing associations, solicitors and regulatory bodies to ensure sites meet all business and legal requirements.

Natasha said: “It is very important for homebuilders to encourage women to join the construction industry. Strong, intelligent and capable women can, and do, thrive in this sector.

“Young girls in school should be made aware of the variety of career paths that can be found within the industry, and how they can strive towards them. Women may be intimidated by the fact that the industry is typically male-dominated and may not be aware of the different career paths available.

“When I was an assistant with limited experience, I was invited to meetings with senior colleagues. I was always afforded the same level of respect and opportunity as my male counterparts, which has helped me grow in my career.”

Georgina Wilkinson, Regional Development Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “We are extremely proud of Natasha’s continued development.

“She is a great member of the team, and I echo her words and want to encourage any women looking to make a move into the construction industry to get involved.”

Natasha graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Philosophy and began her career in conveyancing, before moving into property development.

Outside of work, she is an avid netball player and enjoys spending time with her dog.
