A NEW bus stop will help more Rugbeians get out and about.

The new stop in Bilton Road was requested by people with disabilities, who rely on public transport due to their reduced mobility.

It was requested by County Councillor Maggie O’Rourke, who used her Councillor’s grant allowance to fund the bus stop.

Coun O’Rourke said: “It’s the little things that make a big difference.

“For people who struggle to walk or stand, a bus stop with seating can be the difference between getting out and about or being stuck at home. It helps parents withe young kids to use public transport too, and the more people who use the buses, the more buses will be provided.

“Encouraging people to use public transport is an important part of our strategy to reduce congestion on our roads and improve air quality. It starts with making it easy for people to use buses, and making their time at the bus stop as comfortable as possible”

Borough Councillor Mike Brader added: “The fact that Maggie has been able to use a Councillor’s grant to provide this bus stop shows how powerful small budgets can be in the right hands.”
