FOUR new members have joined the team of volunteers which helps keep the town centre safe at night.
Rugby Street Pastors commissioned the newly trained members at their annual Street Pastors Commissioning Service, held at Rugby Elim Church – bringing their total numbers to 44.
The new pastors – Donal Televeenus from Bilton Evangelical Church, David Rhone from New Testament Church of God, Anthony Thurkettle from New Life Church and Charlotte Hart from St John’s Brinklow will now join their respective teams to patrol Rugby Town Centre once a month on Friday and Saturday nights.
They were welcomed by VIP guests, Mayor Tom Mahoney and Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe.
Rugby Street Pastors coordinator Dawn Thurkettle said: “A presence of Street Pastors at 3am around the clock tower in Rugby Town Centre, where intoxicated clubbers congregate while waiting for a taxi, brings a calming, reassuring influence.
“Many people have said they feel much safer when they see Street Pastors are watching out for them.”
Mayor Tom Mahoney said: “The Street Pastors provide an invaluable service in the town centre, supporting our night-time economy by offering a reassuring presence to revellers and a helping hand to those in need.
“It’s a voluntary role which requires dedication and commitment, and I was delighted to attend the commissioning service and welcome the latest recruits to the Street Pastors team.”
