New guides put information at fingertips of St Cross patients

Rugby Editorial 21st Apr, 2018   0

HANDY information is at the fingertips of patients at St Cross Hospital.

New patient information folders are now available at bedsides at St Cross and University Hospital in Coventry.

Patients and staff had a hand in creating the guides, which are now available on every adult inpatient ward at the two hospitals.

The folders contain information patients said they wanted to know or see, including a ‘who’s who’ of staff on the wards, details of hospital services and facilities, and how to stay healthy and safe while in hospital.

They also contain a book for patients and relatives to make a note of anything they would like the ward team to answer or address, or for staff to give patients handy information or reminders about their ongoing care and recovery.

Ward manager Ruth Pearman said: “It’s so good to have the information that patients need all in one place. It also helps us have conversations with patients about what to expect from their stay, and all the services available to them.

“The new folders are also a lot smaller than the previous ones, so they’re much easier for frail patients to hold.”

Professor Meghana Pandit, Chief Medical Officer and Deputy CEO at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, said: “I’m so proud to have these new folders on wards at both our hospitals to improve the experience for our patients and visitors.

“Patients have been asking us for more information about their care, and these set out what they can expect, and also what services are available to them.

“Combined with our new website, and other new services like the Improvement Hub on the ground floor, we’ve transformed the information available to our patients and visitors.”
