New project to showcase talents of Rugby artists and makers

ARTISTS and makers in Rugby are showcasing their works as part of a new project.

The Love Rugby Art and Makers Project is open to all local artists and art lovers.

A collection of over 20 pieces of art will go on display at a local bar and be put up for auction.

Works up for sale include paintings by Rugby School’s head of art Joseph Ryan, a modernist who exhibits regularly with the New English Art Club in London, and is a member of the Contemporary British Portrait Painters.

Coun Sarah Feeney, who represents Benn Ward on Warwickshire County Council, has contributed some of her handmade jewellery to the project.

She said: “It is a pleasure to offer home crafted jewellery to the collection. Making jewellery is great for my wellbeing and I’d encourage people to give it a go.”

Sam Wardle, who is leading the project with help from the Rugby Labour Women’s Network, said: “The group is very grateful to the talented local artists and collectors who are donating quality pieces, including the painting featured on the poster by Joseph Ryan.

“We also owe a massive thank you to Inside The 22, who are opening their beautiful upstairs rooms for us to display the art for sale and host an auction.”

The showcase auction event takes place on April 12 at the Inside The 22 bar, with viewings from 5pm and auction from 6.30pm.
