QUICKER journeys to the north will be possible from Rugby’s train station later this month.
Virgin Trains is introducing faster direct trains to the North-West and Scotland in its new timetable, starting on May 16.
The new services will remove the need to change at Birmingham by using the fast Trent Valley route.
The new 13.04 service from Rugby to Chester will give a quicker connection to Glasgow by changing at Crewe as well as a direct link to North Wales. Coming south, there is an additional direct service from Glasgow leaving at 10.40, arriving at Rugby at 14.24. This will give a fastest-ever time from Glasgow to Rugby of three hours 44 minutes.
Rugby Rail Users Group (RRUG) Chair Stephanie Clifford said it was good news for Rugby.
She said: “Direct trains to the North-West and Scotland have been a priority for Rugby Rail Users Group since 2004.
“These extra services are a small but significant gain after many years of being cut off from the North West during the day.
“We hope to see many Rugby rail passengers make use of these new faster trains, and hope this paves the way for more services on this route in the future.”
