A NEW school in Rugby Borough is helping children with special educational needs get the best start in life.
Based in Wolston, The Haven School – for children between 11 and 19 years old with Education, Health and Care Plans – opened in September.
The school provides support and guidance to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and manage their needs. Pupils benefit from small class sizes and a calm, quiet environment with specialist staff. Curriculums are personalised to each child and all students have a key worker.
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey visited the school to meet with Director Steve Farmer and Head Teacher Anna Besley and speak with them about the need for specialist educational provision.
Mr Pawsey said: “The Haven was drawn to my attention by one of my constituents who wanted to highlight the benefits that the school might provide for their child. I was keen to visit and learn more myself about the opportunities it brings for children in Rugby and Warwickshire.
“It was clear from speaking to Anna and Steve that they are committed to offering the very best for the pupils who are attending the Haven and I was really pleased to have been able to see that dedication for myself.”
Anna Besley added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mark Pawsey to our school. Mark had a tour of the school site and saw our pupils in their lessons. Mark showed a keen interest in learning about our school and the reasons behind why the school was set up. We all appreciated that Mark took time to visit us and to learn more about SEN provision in his constituency.”
