New Ukrainian neighbours join annual charity bike ride

NEW neighbours from Ukraine have helped an annual fund-raising bike ride to raise £3,000 – taking the total it has raised for good causes over the last ten years to £33,000.

Around 300 riders saddled up for Lutterworth Rotary Club’s Big Bike Ride, which marked its tenth anniversary this year.

They took on routes ranging from 11 to 67 miles through the south Leicestershire countryside, starting and finishing at Misterton Hall where they were welcomed over the finish line by Lutterworth Town Cryer Peter Hollinshead ringing his bell.

A Lutterworth Rotary Club spokesman said: “This year we were especially pleased to be able to offer a warm welcome to guests from the Ukraine who were riding with us for the first time, having settled in the Lutterworth area, following the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine earlier this year.

“Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon resting at Misterton Hall, eating a Hog Roast courtesy of Neil Green Catering, an Ice Cream and a Cake from Nathan Miles, washed down by a cold beer from The Jolly Hucksters while listening to music from the Hatstand Band. What a fabulous day we all enjoyed.

“The Rotary Club of Lutterworth would like to thank all our stall holders, our volunteers and those people that came and took part. If you enjoyed yourself, why not save the date for next year – August 20, 2023.”

The £3,000 raised on the day will go to Epilepsy Action, Cystic Fibrosis and other Rotary charities in the UK and overseas.
