Newbold lights switch-on raises money for community garden project

A CHRISTMAS lights switch-on event in Newbold has helped to raise £148 towards the development of a community edible garden.

The event, organised by Newbold Community Partnership, included festive activities such as lantern-making, fancy dress and a prize raffle at The Chapel.

There was also a treasure hunt laid out around Newbold, with clues posted on the Newbold Community Facebook page leading people to the prize-winning knitted owls and angels, created as part of a community knitting project at The Chapel.

Members of Rugby Community Choir came along to lend their superb voices for some carol singing before Mayor Belinda Garcia switched on the lights outside Mill Green Care Home.

Funds raised as part of the event will go towards the development of a path at The Chapel – the first phase of a project to develop a community garden. Search for The Chapel Newbold group on Facebook to see how the project progresses.
