Next stage of Rugby park revamp begins

A NEW lease of life is coming to an urban park and playground after work began on the next stage of a major revamp.

New play equipment – including swings and a climbing nest with slide – is now being built at Millennium Green in Craven Road following a £50,000 donation from from WREN – a not-for-profit business which gives grants to community projects.

The revamp also includes new seating, planting and landscaping.

Coun Maggie O’Rourke, chair of community group Benn’s Friends, said: “The refurbishment of Millennium Green has been a real team effort, with the community working in partnership with the council to draw up the plans and secure more than £100,000 in funding.

“The hard work has really paid off and we’re all looking forward to the completion of the refurbishment next month.”

The latest cash boost joins other investments the Government’s Pocket Parks programme, the SUEZ Communities Trust and the Warwickshire County Council’s councillor grants fund.

Following the refurbishment, the park will be renamed the Brian Whistance Millennium Green, in memory of the late ward councillor who played a key role in the creation of the park at the turn of the century.

Work on the expansion is set to be completed later this month.
