A CRICKET-loving girl is ahead of the curve, having been selected for the Warwickshire’s Development of Excellence under-11s Cricket Squad at just nine years old.

Amy Robinson impressed coaches with her hardball batting, bowling and fielding skills at a six-week trial with the Warwickshire coaches at Edgbaston – and is one of just 20 girls to make the cut.

The Year 5 pupil at Crescent School, who said she loves playing cricket and was thrilled to be selected, has been playing the sport since she was six, and currently plays for Oakfield and Rowlands Cricket Club’s under-11 team.

Amy, from Rugby, will now hone her skills at weekly training sessions at Edgbaston through the winter, and hopes to be selected for the summer squad to play matches against other counties.

Amy is also a key member of Crescent’s U11 cricket team and was nominated for the county trials by head of sport Matt Phillips.

He said: “We are very proud of Amy. She is a talented and exciting cricketer and this is a great opportunity for her.

“Being selected is a real achievement and a pathway onto the regional and national academy programmes.

“We look forward to following her progress over the winter.”
