AN OLYMPIC gold medal winning rower from Rugby is going back to school.
Lauren Henry, a member of Team GB’s winning Women’s Quadruple Sculls team at the Paris 2024 Olympics, will visit her former school, Rugby High School, later this month to share her journey with students.
She will speak to pupils about her life, her training and her Olympic experience at a number of special assemblies.
Students will relive the experience of Lauren’s team’s nail-biting finish in the Olympics this summer, when she and crewmates Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Georgina Brayshaw overtook their Netherlands rivals in the final seconds to win gold. Lauren took up rowing at the age of 13 and ascended through the junior ranks. At 21, she won the GB Rowing Senior Team Trials in 2023.
She has gone on to win world and European crowns in the quadruple sculls, the boat in which she made her Olympic debut in Paris.
At 22, Lauren was the youngest rower on Team GB in Paris – and she has set her sights high.
Following her triumph in July, Lauren told the Observer: “My goal is to be the most successful female rower ever from Great Britain.
“The real greats don’t just stick with one gold, they get multiple, so that’s my aim.”
Rugby High students will have the opportunity to ask Lauren questions during her visit on Monday September 30, followed by a photo opportunity for school sports captains and prefects.
