A PACK of dogs attacked three people and another dog when they broke loose in the street in Rugby on Monday (February 17).

Police received reports that a boy walking his dog down Bath Street had been approached by three loose dogs at around 3.35pm.

The three dogs, believed to be American bulldogs, were attacking the boy’s dog.

Three members of the public bravely stepped in to help the boy and managed to secure one of the attacking dogs – but were bitten on their hands and faces in the process. Their injuries were not treated as life-changing.

Police arrived and put the secured dog into their van, but the other two dogs had fled.

Officers traced the dogs to a nearby house where they found another of the dogs involved in the attack, together with seven more dogs.

The third dog involved in the attack was found in a nearby garden.

All 10 dogs were seized. Police believe they were five American bulldogs, four bull breed juveniles and one Jack Russell.

All the seized dogs were taken unharmed to police kennels. The condition of the boy’s dog which was attacked is not known.

Jamie Hoggins, 33, of Baseley Way in Longford, Coventry was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of having a dog dangerously out of control causing injury – one from 2023 and one from 2025, an animal welfare offence, two counts of possession of offensive weapon, and possession of a Class B drug.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Coventry magistrates today (Wednesday February 19).

Sgt Christian Jones of Rugby Police said: “Thank you to those who called 999, and to those brave members of the public who stepped in to help the boy.

“They should be incredibly proud of what they did.

“We are all really hoping the boy’s dog makes a full recovery.”
