Parliamentary candidate and shadow minister join police on the beat in Rugby

ON the beat – a contender to be Rugby’s next MP joined a shadow minister for a walk through the town with local police officers.

Coun John Slinger welcomed Shadow Policing Minister Alex Norris MP to Rugby on the day of the town’s Spring Food Festival.

The Labour candidate said: “As a local councillor, I meet local police on a regular basis. It was great to welcome Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister Alex Norris MP to Rugby for a briefing and to discuss law and order issues.

“We also spent time with officers on patrol in the town centre during Rugby’s Food and Drink Festival – a time when the community comes together to enjoy the town centre.

“Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is one of my priorities locally, in a spirit of partnership with the police and all involved in community safety.”

Mr Norris said: “I was glad to hear about the good work being done in Rugby by the police, community wardens, town rangers, local politicians like John and others to prioritise the safety of the community and businesses.”
