Pensioner targeted in Warks phone scam

Rugby Editorial 6th Aug, 2015 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

POLICE are urging people to be vigilant after a Warwickshire man in his 80s was the victim of a phone scam.

The man was called by a woman, who told him he was entitled to £8,000 owing to a reform in his pension.

She advised he complete a money gram form before returning it to the post office and told him he would need £100 in cash for processing fees, which someone would collect from his home.

But when the man went to the post office staff realised it was a scam and no money was handed over.

Police are now asking people not to give out any personal details on the phone or hand over cash or cards to anyone who comes to their door.

And if anyone does receive such a call, they are advised to hang up and call 101 from a different phone.

If there is a crime in progress they should call 999.
