Pervert pensioner jailed for sexually abusing teenage boy in 1980s

A PENSIONER has been jailed for sexually abusing a teenage boy at Warwickshire horse riding stable more than 35 years ago.

Peter Graham Brown had originally denied committing a number of sexual offences against the boy in the early 1980s.

But on the day of his trial at Warwick Crown Court, the 71-year-old, of Shuckburgh Grove, Leamington, changed his pleas to guilty on three charges of indecent assault.

Sentencing was adjourned for a report on Brown, and at the resumed hearing the pensioner was jailed for two years and ten months.

The offences took place in 1980 and 1981, and an investigation launched when the victim, who was assaulted either side of his 15th birthday, reported the assaults to police.

Brown met his victim while he was a manager and riding instructor at a stable in Warwickshire.

Judge Peter Cooke told Brown: “What you did was unspeakable and shameful.

“It would be a travesty if this didn’t result in an immediate custodial sentence.”

Speaking after Brown was sentenced, Det Con Karen Rook of Leamington CID, said police would investigate reports of such offences however long ago they happened.

She added: “Peter Brown is a devious man who abused his position of trust to befriend and exploit his victim for his own sexual gratification.

“I would like to commend the bravery of the victim for coming forward after all this time. His courage led to this conviction.

“I hope this outcome reassures any other victims of sexual offences that there is no time limit to reporting offences and that we will investigate.”
