Phoenix rises as Leicestershire maze reopens after lockdown

A PHOENIX is rising at a giant maze which is reopening as lockdown ends.

The eight-acre Wistow Maze has been redesigned in the shape of the mythical bird rising from the flames, with a hidden Quiz Trail featuring other mythical creatures.

Diana Brooks, owner of Wistow Maze, said: “The phoenix is often used as a symbol of recovery and renewal, which seems very appropriate for this year.”

The maize labyrinth – which attracts over 20,000 visitors each year – is redesigned each year using GPS satellite technology, and at the end of the season is cut down and fed to the cows.

The maze features three miles of pathways carved through living corn, with high level bridges and towers with panoramic views.

It is open daily from Monday July 19 to Sunday September 5, then at weekends only until Sunday September 19.
