Phoney £20 notes in circulation in Rugby

Rugby Editorial 19th Jul, 2022 Updated: 19th Jul, 2022   0

PHONEY £20 notes are being circulated in and around Rugby.

Rugby Police have put out a warning about the notes on social media.

A spokesperson said: “These have no value and are worthless, so we would like to make you aware of what security features you need to look out for.”

Genuine notes have a hologram on the same side as the Queen which changes between ‘Twenty’ and ‘Pounds’ when tilted, a metallic image over the main window, and a second smaller window in the bottom corner of the note.

There is also a Braille feature consisting of three dots on the top left hand corner of a real £20 note, which is not present on the counterfeit notes in circulation.

Anyone who comes across a counterfeit note is asked to report it to police by calling 101.
