Pin-up pooches pose for pub's fund-raising calendar

PIN-UP pooches have been packing in to a Long Lawford pub to feature in a fund-raising calendar.

The Bear pub has launched a dog-themed 2024 calendar in aid of Rugby-based charity Pawprints Dog Rescue.

The dog-friendly pub invited model mutts to participate in a ‘Doggies of the Bear 2024’ calendar to raise money for Pawprints, which helps care for and house dogs rescued from pounds.

The community responded enthusiastically, with 96 dogs visiting The Bear to have their picture taken and included in the calendar.

A percentage of the proceeds from each calendar sold, which amounted to £302, was then donated to Pawprints Dog Rescue.

The pub’s owners Wells & Co then doubled all funds raised through its Charlie’s Charity Fund, taking the grand total to £604.

Michael Maughan, General Manager of The Bear, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support from the local community and the generosity of the Charlie’s Charity Fund, which helped us raise funds for an incredible charity.

“We are proud to be a part of the Rugby community and have thoroughly enjoyed being able to support a worthwhile cause and meet so many four-legged friends along the way.”

Dog rescue charities across the UK are under immense pressure, with record numbers of dogs needing rescue spaces because of the boom in ‘lockdown puppies’ which are now being abandoned.

Pawprints Dog Rescue is entirely reliant on donations and fund-raising to help meet its annual costs, which include £25,000 a year on vet bills alone. Visit www.pawprintsdogrescue.org for more information.
