A FORMER doctors’ surgery looks set to switch back to being a private residence after 25 years.
A planning application has been drawn up to change the use of 95 Clifton Road following the GPs’ move to Market Quarter Medical Practice at the new Rugby Health and Wellbeing Centre on the former cattle market site in March.
The building, owned by Dr Katharine Leach, is now being sold off and there has been some interest in it, but all are for residential use.
It was a private home for 80 years before being changed to provide GP services 25 years ago despite local objections back then.
And Dr Leach said she could provide evidence neighbouring residents would like to see it return to residential use.
In her application, she wrote: “This is an old building which is entirely inappropriate for any healthcare facility.
“The NHS area team have confirmed they will not support this building being used for any health purposes.
“Continued ownership of this property is a considerable drain on our resources. I am keen to sell as soon as possible and in order to do so I need to be able to sell it with the knowledge that planning permission to convert back to residential use has been granted.”
The council has yet to set a date to decide on the application.
