THE FIRST anniversary of the death of the Queen today (Friday September 8) has been marked with the installation of a plaque at Rugby’s only independent adult education centre.
The plaque has been put up at the Percival Guildhouse next to a tree which was planted to celebrate her 70-year reign.
The Rowan sapling was planted last autumn as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative launched to recognise the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 – an initiative which has seen more than three million trees planted nationwide.
Carin Jackson, Chair of Trustees at the Percival Guildhouse, installed the plaque which will serve as a lasting reminder of the Queen’s long reign of public service.
Carin said: “The Percival Guildhouse Gardens are a precious green space in the heart of Rugby town enjoyed by many. As our Rowan tree grows, we hope this and future generations will be reminded of the late Queen’s selfless public service – a lasting example to us all.”
