A POISONOUS gas leak at Magna Park’s DHL distribution centre left three people hospitalised.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent emergency crews from Lutterworth, Rugby and Coalville, as well as an Environmental Protection Unit to the DHL centre on Hunter Boulevard at around 3pm yesterday (Tuesday January 5).

Three workers on site were taken by ambulance to Walsgrave Hospital for exposure to the gas.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “Five people who were affected from the leak were treated on site from what was found to be an ammonia leak from a refrigeration unit.

“The building was evacuated before three people were sent to hospital for breathing in the gas.”

The road remained closed for around an hour before fire crews left the scene. Trained experts were left on site to handle any possible further incidents.
