Police assaulted and racially abused by Rugby men

POLICE officers were allegedly assaulted and racially abused by men from Rugby in two separate incidents over the weekend.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, assault and criminal damage, after officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a property in Pettiver Crescent on Friday night (September 10).

He was further arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offence after it is alleged he was racially abusive to a custody officer at Nuneaton Justice Centre.

In the early hours of Sunday morning (September 12), two officers reported being punched in the head while detaining a suspect in connection with an assault in High Street.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers and assault. He was later bailed while enquiries continue.

None of the officers were seriously injured.
