POLICE are investigating a robbery in Hillmorton which they believe is part of a string of offences in the area.

Warwickshire Police are reporting two men entered the One Stop Shop in Lower Hillmorton Road at around 6.30am on Tuesday (November 15). The pair threatened two female members of staff with a hammer and demanded keys to the till.

One of the staff members raised her hands to protect herself from the hammer and sustained a serious injury which was later treated by attending ambulance staff.

The offenders fled the scene on foot with cash from the till.

The men are described as being in their twenties of average height and build and wearing scarves over their faces. One was wearing grey jogging trousers.

Detective Inspector Jon Belcher said: “We are considering a link between this robbery and a robbery that occurred at Madden’s newsagent in Hillmorton Road, Rugby, on Sunday November 13.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw anyone or any vehicles acting suspiciously.

“We would also like to identify the owner of a white van in the area of Kingsley Avenue at around 6.30am this morning (15 November).”

A 31-year-old man from Rugby has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident at Madden’s on Sunday and remains in police custody.

Anyone with information should call Warwickshire Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or through their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org quoting incident 42 of 15 November.
