Police offer advice to stay in control ahead of busy weekend for pubs and clubs

POLICE have offered advice to help people stay in control when out celebrating during the festive season.

Extra officers will be on duty this weekend as alcohol related violent crime is expected to rise at one of the busiest times of the year for pubs and clubs.

Warwickshire Police issued the following advice to help people stay in control and out of trouble.

  • Beware of rounds – Drinking in rounds normally means trying to keep up with the fastest drinker in the group. Take part in smaller rounds or avoid them altogether.
  • Grab the grub – A meal before drinking and snacks between drinks can help to slow down the absorption of alcohol.
  • Keep count – Use a smartphone app from www.drinkaware.com to keep track of what you’re drinking.
  • Small sizes – Swap a pint for a bottle or a half, or a large glass of wine for a smaller glass. Buy spritzers and shandies.
  • Soften up – Alternating alcoholic drinks with soft drinks means you will drink less over the course of an evening. Take a bottle of water on to the dance floor.
