PROUD members of a weight-loss group in Rugby are celebrating their contribution to a massive charity donation.
Slimming World members from the town helped the organisation to reach a significant milestone in its charity partnership with Cancer Research UK.
The national group has now raised £30million for the charity over the last 12 years.
Marianne Wilkins, who runs two Slimming World groups in Hillmorton, has contributed to the total by holding fund-raising activities with members such as The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw, where members donated the clothes they had slimmed out of to the charity’s shops.
Marianne said: “We have members in our groups who have either been touched personally by cancer or someone close to them has. It is something incredibly close to all of our hearts.
“I’m so proud of my members for helping us achieve such a fantastic figure raised for Cancer Research UK and for the rest of the Rugby team and their wonderful members too.
“Their enthusiasm to take part in or support our fundraising activities is amazing to see and has allowed us to raise more than we could have imagined.
“Cancer has sadly touched the lives of so many of our friends and we therefore jump at the chance to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”
Eve Mitchell, Associate Director of Supporter Relationships at Cancer Research UK, said: “We’re so thankful to Slimming World members, consultants and staff for all their fantastic work.
“Every pound raised is helping to bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
