Pub assailant tried to hide video evidence of attack

AN ASSAILANT tried to hide video evidence of his attack on another man at a Rugby pub.

David Webster, 46, of Dunchurch Road has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to wounding and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

On November 13 last year, police were called to a report of a fight at a pub in Drury Lane.

Officers attended and were told Webster had assaulted another man, who had facial injuries.

Officers viewed and seized the pub’s CCTV footage showing the assault, and Webster was arrested.

When he was taken to custody, Webster made a phone call to a woman asking her to ‘lose’ the CCTV recording.

Investigating officer Det Con Matthew Rapkins said: “Not only did Webster seriously assault another man, but he then tried to hide the evidence and pervert the course of justice.

“This conviction shows that police and prosecuting agencies will not tolerate violent offences. We conduct thorough investigations and Webster’s attempt to destroy evidence in this case no doubt caused him to face a heavier sentence.”
